Ah3 Invoicing and Inventory System for Repair Shops
Ah3 is an invoicing and inventory system for repair shops. Out of the box it is focused towards autmotive repair shops but can be readily changed for any sort of shop without any knowledge of coding or recompiling the application.
Some of its features include:
- Customer and vehicle database
- Inventory management
- Customizable invoice generation
- Forms which can be redily customized without code changes
- Minimal data changes from Ah2
- Building on MS Windows is possible
A user manual can be found by clicking here.
Ah3 uses the Qt toolkit from Trolltech. It also uses the Postgresql database, though it may be possible, with a little effort, to have it work with MySql or Sqlite.
You can find the source code at ftp://www.linuxlots.com/pub/ah3
Currently only a tar ball of the source is available. In the future binary versions will be available.
All of my instructions assume you have proper users, permissions etc to create databases on your postgres server.
As a Qt project, building Ah3 is straight forward.
- Be sure you have the Postgresql drivers for Qt installed.
- Untar the the source then cd into the directory ah3-xxx
- Execute `qmake ah3.pro`
- Execute `make`
- You will now have an executible named Ah3. Move this to /usr/bin or wherever you like
- Execute `mkdir /opt/ah3`
- Execute `mkdir /opt/ah3/reports`
- Execute `cp invoice.xml /opt/ah3/reports`
- Execute `cp ah3.xml /opt/ah3/default_forms.xml`
If you do not have ah2 already running on your system. You can set up the postgres with the following commands. DO NOT EXECUTE THESE COMMANDS IF YOU HAVE AH2 ALREADY RUNNING ON YOUR SYSTEM.
- Execute `createdb ah3`
- Execute `psql ah3 <ah3.psql`
I need he help of existing ah2 users. The inventory tables have changed and I do not have a large enough sample to be able to come up with the required scripts and instructions on migrating the inventory and vendor tables. If you want to help the cause, please contact me at <a href="mailto:joe@croftj.net>joe@croftj.net.
With that said...
If you already have Ah2 running on your machine. Migrating to Ah3 is fairly simple. Only the inventory tables have changed. Beyond that, all of the customer records have remained the same.
To ensure your ability to go back to ah2, these instructions will step you through cloning your existing database then adjusting the new copy to work with ah3.
- Execute `pg_dump ah2 >pg3.db`
- Execute `createdb ah3`
- Execute `psql ah3 <ah3.db`
- Execute `psql ah3 <newviews.psql`
The last Command should give you some errors about views not existing. Other than that, you should not see any errors
When you start ah3, you will get errors on the vendors table. This is normal for the circumstances. If you need to migrate your inventory tables over, contact me and I will help you.
Ah2 can be started with by typing `ah3` from the command prompt assuming you put it one of the directories in your path.
The work flow for Ah3 is similar to that of Ah2. For now, as I do not have any documentation for ah3, you can use the documents for it to help you through. I will start working on documents so they will be available in the near future. You can fnd the ah2 documentation at the ftp site with a ah3 tarball.
