Menu of Linux Mailing Lists (LML).
Ingles
Introduction.
This page reports and classifies information about mailing lists for Linux
and Linux programs.
The information of each mailing list is presented in a record form,
to make easier its access.
The administrators or coordinators of the lists can add, change, or remove
directly any data. Nevertheless, the coordinator of LML will check it,
before posting it.
The users can look for information sort by group, country, langage and
status, or can search along teh database.
Now you can subscribe or unsubscribe to the lists using the links.
Looking for information.
To look for information, you can use one of the following options:
- Direct.
Using the link 'visualize' in the main page, you get a prompt to
introduce the name and the address (in DNS format) of the server to have
access to the corresponding record.
- Sorted.
Using any of the ways for sorting, we will get a list with the name of
the lists and a small description of each one.
The names of the mailing lists are also links to the corresponding record.
- Searching.
With this option we will get a list with the names of the mailing lists that
include the introduced string on either the name field or the description
field.
As above, the names are also links to the corresponding record of the
mailing list.

Updating.
To add, change, or remove data of a lists we can use the same methods
as the ones to access to the record.
Once the record has been modified, it will go to 'Pending' status, or
"Marked to delete' status, depending of the action. After checking all the
data modified, the list will go again to the green status or will be deleted
from the database.
Only the coordinator of LML or the administrators or coordinators of
the lists should make any updates.
If, as a user, you know some list that does not appear in LML or
find an error in LML, do not hesitate to inform the coordiantor of LML by
electronic mail.
Ways of subscription.
This section explains to the admisntrators or coordinators of the lists
how to fill up the subscription fields.
When I wrote the LML page, I tried that the filling in part of the
subscription was as simple and direct as possible, in order to avoid
misprints. You will tell me if I did it!
To comunicate with a list, we need the data, the address to send the
messages, and the commands to do operations. The commands are sent in
the body (by default) or in the field 'Subject' of the message.
Let's take a look how to add this information when a list is added or
modified.
There are two methods:
- Automatic. When we send the poll, the fields are filled up with the
appropiate values automatically.
- standard. Depending of the kind of list, the fields are filled up.
- Majordomo... to: majordomo@<address>, command: subscribe <list>
- Listserv... to: listserv@<address>, command: subscribe <list>
- Listproc... to: listproc@<address>, command: subscribe <list>
- Mailbase... to: mailbase@<address>, command: join <list> <name>
- Smarlist... to: mailbase@<address>, command: join <list> <name>
- request. The fields are filled up with the following values:
to: <list>-request@<address>, command: subscribe
- Manuals
- Moderated. You must send a message asking to be added. Once all
our data is checked, the admistrator will add us to the list.
- special. It does not fit in any of the above cases. You must introduce
the values by hand, depending of the list.

Acknowledgments.
In the first place, I would like to thank to the administrators and moderators
of the lists who have contributed in the preparation of LML, wasting part of
their time filling up the records of their lists.
To the users of the lists for their help in the correction of the data
and in the location of new lists.
And finally, to all of those who have helped to improve the program
that manage LML.
Special thanks to Clara for this translation.
